This is a star in the ascendant. Luca has been quietly emerging as one of the hot new talents in house and techno. It’s been a gradual and relentless rise up the ranks with a number of critically acclaimed projects and an impressive list of achievements to his name. In the past year he has had three songs named Essential New Tune by Pete Tong, joined up with Hot Natured, picked up a residency at DC10 in Ibiza and even cracked the UK top 40.
A few years ago, after his former band Cazals split up, he began toying with the idea of making and playing house and techno. Luca’s creative outlook saw him team up with various members of the electronic music fraternity, becoming part of several key working relationships all of which have made their mark on the underground house scene.
As one half of Luca C & Brigante he produced the timeless Morals, featuring Ali Love on vocals. Later he worked with house legend Robert Owens on Tomorrow Can Wait followed by Roisin Murphy, of Moloko fame, on Flash Of Light – each track becoming a success in its own right and helping to further cement Luca’s reputation as a formidable producer.
Further achievements came with Infinity Ink, another two-man project – this time formed with singer Ali Love. Their debut single was Games, an emotional yet dancefloor ready smash that made a mark in 2011 later followed by one of 2012’s biggest anthems, the ridiculously infectious Infinity. Both the original and the Claude Vonstroke remix were named Essential New Tune on Pete Tong’s seminal Radio 1 show, while their live show saw them booked to play all over the globe from a mini tour of the US to gigs across Europe.
He has also secured down a residency at the hallowed grounds of DC10 in Ibiza, a dream come true for someone who has spent many a day and night partying at the world-renowned underground club. As part of the Hot Creations Paradise event he has played several times over the summer, playing a grooving techno set before DJ Harvey among his personal highlights. He also played at the legendary Robot Heart sound system at Burning Man, another standout moment in 2012.
And late last year, Luca’s Midas touch was recognised by Jamie Jones and Lee Foss who invited him to join forces with them as the DJ and production duo prepared to take on the world by transforming their Hot Natured setup into a full-blown artist project.
Their first official single Benediction has already made quite an impact, hitting the UK top 40 in its first week of release and picking up plenty of daytime play on Radio 1 – virtually unheard of for a track released via an independent label. As a key member of the Hot Natured quartet Luca has been responsible for songwriting along with Ali Love, Lee Foss and Jamie Jones, working towards a highly anticipated album and live show, which hits the road in 2013. Luca’s experience with bands making him an essential part of the group, who will play gigs at the world-famous Brixton Academy, among many other venues in 2013. Such an extensive list of achievements would lead many to become complacent and rest on their laurels, but Luca’s vision goes beyond his collaborative projects with his heart set on a solo album when the time is right. Plans are afoot to redirect his creative juices into his very own project, for which he even plans to learn to sing so he can provide the majority of the vocals himself.
Humble and hardworking, Luca Cazal’s talents invigorate every project he lends his hand to and his ever-growing list of achievements is a testament to that.
